Candida auris has been identified as an urgent health threat by the CDC. The fungus is persistent in the healthcare environment and difficult to treat. This presentation reviews C auris, how it differs from other candida, and its resistance patterns. The speaker goes on to discuss screening and testing, difficulties identifying C auris, treatment options, and infection prevention and control practices that may decrease the risk of outbreaks.

Melissa Forton is a family nurse practitioner with nearly 2 decades of experience in pediatric healthcare. She is a sub-investigator in clinical research at Norton Healthcare and develops educational content at the Kentucky Infection Prevention Training Center. She has an interest in quality improvement, research, and healthcare education.
